Walden School Technology Staff
I began working at Walden School soon after moving to Vermont in 1998.
I keep the school's computers and network functioning, work on the web
site, and help teachers, staff and students with technology skills.
I am a strong advocate for self-directed learning.
I have a strong interest in systems - including the work of Buckminster
Fuller, Stafford Beer, and John G. Bennett. I'm also interested in
meditation and other human development disciplines. I enjoy walking and
snowshoeing in the woods and fields around our home. I read books that
cover a wide range of fiction and non-fiction.
Here's my site with technology and education related web links.
Mrs. Bertrand has joined the Walden School community after teaching, and organizing library programs for 15 years in other schools. She looks forward to working with each student sharing her excitement for choosing, reading, and sharing about materials that excite personal curiosity and a passion for lifelong learning. Mrs. Bertrand took a course this summer, "Learning Theory, Instructional Design and Technology", and she is looking forward to incorporating principles that respect how people learn and differentiating library studies goals across the K-8 grades. Go to this website to access suggested library resources and to this webpage to read tech tips.
When Mrs. Bertrand is away from school and in between classes, she participates in a variety of activities. She owns a business and manages the office with her partner and husband, Bob. She grows a vegetable garden, rides her own motorcycle, and plays ice hockey. And she READS lots, for work to keep up with library publications; and for fun, usually historical material or mysteries.
Bram serves as a technology integration specialist for Walden on-site on Tuesdays, and online anytime (the rest of the time, he's at Danville). Bram most enjoys collaborating with teachers and students to create exciting, empowering projects. His old consulting site, The Empowered Teacher (http://empowered-teacher.com) conveys his background and vision.
Recently ending a five-year hiatus from public schools to run a web design company with ex-students, Bram is also a Drupal expert. Drupal is a powerful open source program for creating websites. Bram occasionally takes on Drupal clients in the education sector when he's not too busy (an unlikely prospect!). You can find him playing Scrabble at the Athenaeum on Saturday afternoons, or running the trails of Peacham with his 170-pound Giant Alaskan Malamute, Zoltan.
