Walden School Principal's Page

Martha Dubuque, Principal of Walden School

I welcome you to the Walden School and to our website. Walden is a small, rural, picturesque town that lies in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom in Caledonia County. Our school has 130 students in grades K-8. Walden School is a special place, and we are energized by the opportunity of partnering with parents and the community to educate Walden's children.

Our school is committed to continuous improvement. This year we are working on developing Science and Social Studies curriculum, improving our student scores in math problem solving, writing, and reading analysis and interpretation, and building stronger school-community relationships. We are excited about moving toward a middle school design for our sixth, seventh, and eighth graders.

Four beliefs guide our work. We believe in the intellectual, emotional, physical, creative, social, and developmental needs and unique abilities of each child. We believe in helping each child develop self-confidence, self-respect, and self-reliance as essential ingredients for learning. We believe in developing students' respect and responsibility for their natural, social, and educational environment. We believe students who have a meaningful connection to their community will help create a world in which cooperation, tolerance, and kindness prevail.

Children are certainly a family's and a community's richest blessing. We feel very privileged to have the challenge and responsibility to pursue excellence in education for the children of Walden.

In the Walden spirit,
Martha Dubuque, Principal
