Literacy Teacher
This year I am taking on the role of Literacy Teacher for Grades PreK-2. This will
include Reading Recovery, LLI, Guided Reading support, and Literacy Beginnings.
If children experience difficulty in the early grades with learning how to read,
they will fall further and further behind their peers. Research has proven that
powerful intervention can change the outcome of literacy gains in young children
and in turn will enable them to benefit from their regular classroom instruction.
Reading Recovery, LLI, and Guided Reading are combined to form a systematic
approach to teaching our young children at different levels of ability.
The Reading Recovery program is designed to support first grade children who
need additional, individual assistance with learning to read and write and is
supplementary to classroom instruction.
LLI stands for Leveled Literacy Instruction and provides intensive small groups
instruction for struggling readers and writers.
Both Reading Recovery and LLI have been successful in bringing children to
grade level performance in many, many schools.
Guided Reading is regular classroom instruction designed for small groups of 2-6.
Literacy Beginnings is designed for Preschool children.
I am looking forward to all of this and to what we will see down the road for results!
